Golani Brigade
The Golani Brigade is one of the most highly decorated infantry brigades in the IDF, known for its heroism and spirit.
The Golani Brigade (Hebrew: חֲטִיבַת גּוֹלָנִי) is an Israeli infantry brigade that is subordinated to the 36th Division and traditionally associated with the Northern Command. It is one of the most highly decorated infantry units in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
Formed on February 22, 1948, during the 1948 Arab–Israeli War, when it was detached from the Levanoni Brigade, the Golani Brigade has participated in all of Israel's major wars and nearly all major operations. The brigade consists of five battalions, including special forces battalions, and has a long-standing rivalry with the Paratroopers Brigade.
The brigade's symbol is a green olive tree with its roots on a yellow background, symbolizing the brigade's connection to the land. The Golani Brigade's soldiers are distinguished by their brown berets.
During the Iron Swords War, the Golani Brigade played a crucial role in defending Israel's northern communities and later in offensive operations. Many of its soldiers displayed extraordinary bravery, with several making the ultimate sacrifice to protect Israeli civilians.
